Von Willebrand’s diseaes is a blood disorder—the lack of a factor that helps clot the blood. Some studies have indicated that patients with this disease miscarry recurrently. But this is not necessarily true, because other women with the disorder have had several successful pregnancies. If you have a family history of this or other bleeding problems, you should be tested before you get pregnant. If diagnosed, the disorder can be treated.
Further, patients who lack certain factors in the blood necessary for normal blood clotting control may have an increased chance of miscarrying. When blood coagulation occurs, it goes through certain steps. Measurement for these factors is done as part of a routine workup in unexplained miscarriages.
