If the information from an ultrasound scan conforms that the pregnancy will not continue—either because the fetus is already dead (missed abortion ) or there is an empty sac in the uterus (blighted ovum) o—the doctor may initially seem concerned mainly about on your sadness and grieving. This is not an easy time emotionally, even under the best conditions, but you must realize that medical management has to be the first priority. It pays to listen and have confidence in your doctor.
In all likelihood, the doctor will recommend performing a D&C in his office, or in the hospital, and will explain how the uterus has to be emptied. The other method of management, as mentioned earlier, would be to let the fetus dispel itself from your uterus spontaneously. However, it cannot the next opportunity for you to attempt another pregnancy.
