Inevitable miscarriage
When the bleeding becomes painful and is accompanied by some severe cramping, the uterus may already be expelling the fetus. And when your doctor examines you, he or she may find that the cervix is already opening, at which point you may be told that the miscarriage is inevitable. Although this can sound harsh and cold to you, it means there really is little hope of saving the pregnancy. You will probably be offered a D&C, rather than having to go home to endure the cramps until the miscarriage occurs naturally. Even so, you still might require an aspiration if some tissue is left behind. If your pregnancy is slightly more advanced, beyond 9weeks, and you are told that you are going to miscarry, your doctor will probably advise you not to go home, where you would await the natural abortion. Rather, you will be encouraged to have a D&C, to avoid an emergency situation from heavy bleeding.
